Space Florida partnership: Hernando Schools outline credentials, teacher training and pipeline goals

She said the master credentials list includes roughly 360 industry certifications that align to space careers; Hernando County Schools currently offers about 60 of those 360, and the district offers about 90 industry certifications overall.
Near‑term goals Trowell described include developing space teacher trainings (she said sessions were being planned for September at NASA/Cape with partners) and expanding outreach so guidance counselors, CTE teachers and students use the Space Careers portal when it becomes available. Trowell said the portal will allow graduates with credentials to be visible to space‑industry employers.
Board members asked about pre‑apprenticeships and apprenticeships; Trowell said the district is exploring pre‑apprenticeship programs and that employer demand currently favors hire‑ready workers with some skills rather than long apprenticeship time commitments. She said the district is coordinating with county economic development efforts to attract space‑related manufacturers to the airport industrial park and to align education and training to employer needs.
