The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners voted Monday to authorize up to $500,000 in Tourist Development Tax revenue for the Dickens on Centre event and to delegate vendor selection authority to the Amelia Island Convention and Visitors Bureau (AICVB).
AICVB special events director Maryella (Mariel) Murphy told the board the funds — previously approved by the Tourist Development Council — will cover production, entertainment, transportation, waste removal and vendor services needed to stage the December festival. She described procurement and contracting processes the bureau will follow and said staff and legal review will be used for contracts and smaller vendor agreements.
Commissioner John Martin moved approval on the record and the board voted 5‑0 to authorize the use of funds and to delegate contractor selection to the AICVB president and CEO within Nassau County purchasing policy.
Why it matters: The authorized funds will underwrite a major winter event that draws visitors and supports tourism‑related economic activity; staff said the expenditure follows previously adopted TDC allocations and procurement protocols.
