Kennewick City Council unanimously approves 4% raise for city manager

Kennewick City Council voted unanimously June 24 to raise the city manager's salary by 4% after an executive session on the performance of a public employee.
The raise took place at the Kennewick City Council workshop after the council returned from an executive session held under RCW 42.30.110(1)(g). Mayor Pro Tem Torelli moved the raise; Council member Beecham seconded. The council then conducted a roll-call vote that recorded seven ayes and no nays.
The motion specified that deferred-compensation contributions would be commensurate with the increased salary. During brief discussion before the vote, council members praised the city manager’s leadership, organization and work on projects assigned when the manager was hired.
The clerk conducted the roll call. Those recorded voting “aye” were Mayor Crawford, Mayor Pro Tem Torelli, Council member Anderson, Council member Beecham, Council member McShane, Council member Milbauer and Council member Trumbo. The motion passed 7-0.
The item followed an executive session the council held to review a public employee’s performance under Washington’s open-meetings statute. The meeting then moved on to a presentation from the city attorney.
