Bellbrook to install truck restriction signs downtown and deploy speed-study devices on Little Sugar Creek Road

City Manager Rob told the Bellbrook City Council on June 23 that signs for truck restrictions on Main and Franklin streets have been ordered and that the Ohio Highway Patrol has been conducting commercial truck enforcement in the area.
"There was one the other day that was, like, 96,000 pounds driving through," Rob said as an example of heavy commercial traffic passing through town. He said the city is beginning an education and signage program to mark the restrictions and to work cooperatively with businesses and drivers.
Rob also said staff will deploy speed-study devices in several locations, including Little Sugar Creek Road, and will re-study crosswalk placement to determine whether environmental or enforcement changes have reduced speeds. "According to the police chief, it seems and appears that it is [having an effect]," Rob said, but he added that the 85th percentile speed on Little Sugar Creek Road remains closer to 35 mph than the posted 25 mph in some stretches.
Council members noted anecdotal reductions in heavy-truck traffic downtown following the county and law-enforcement actions. Rob said the city will monitor results, implement signage and consider engineering and enforcement options to improve pedestrian safety.
