Construction updates: asbestos abatement, classroom renovations and field-house progress reported

Josh Whitman of Codell, the project manager on the Longs renovation, told the board asbestos mitigation is underway in the van room and is expected to finish by the end of the week. Flooring removal and subfloor/plumbing work is in progress and will enable interior finishes once completed. Whitman said removal of an underground storage tank had taken longer than anticipated but that work in the project's Area B is tracking to be finished before the school year begins.
Charles from Summit Architects and Engineers reported field-house work is advancing: exterior and interior CMU block is complete, door frames and roof trusses are installed, and brick veneer installation is scheduled to begin next week. He also said the Muhlenberg County Middle School classroom renovation is a small project likely to finish sooner than expected.
Contractors invited board members to visit job sites to view progress and asked administrators to coordinate walkthroughs.
No contract awards were decided in the construction update presentation portion; the board later voted separately to accept roofing bids and proceed with other facility contracts as part of the consent or bid-award agenda items.
