Commissioners approve conditional use permit for behavioral health pharmacy at 239 West 2100 South

The South Salt Lake Planning Commission on June 19 approved a conditional use permit for Genoa Healthcare to operate a behavioral-health-focused pharmacy at 239 West 2100 South in the downtown district'station subdistrict.

Senior Planner Spencer Collie presented the application and recommended approval with conditions, including tenant-improvement and building, fire and municipal-code compliance; a sign-permit requirement (amended on the record to match downtown sign rules, limiting window signage to no more than 30% of any window panel); and hours of operation limited to 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff said the pharmacy use in the downtown zone is conditional and that the proposed tenant fit within an existing retail structure; the use would generate minimal site visits because Genoa primarily ships prescriptions.

Applicant Kyle Davis (project manager, Genoa Healthcare) said Genoa is a behavioral-health pharmacy that is open to the public but primarily serves behavioral-health clients and delivers many prescriptions. He said the site would not compound specialty drugs but would provide behavioral-health medication, injections and typical prescription services. The applicant acknowledged the limited retail signage and the weekday, daytime hours tied to their business model.

No public comment was taken because this item was noticed as a public meeting. Commissioner Southey moved to approve the conditional use permit with the staff conditions as amended on the record; Commissioner Spencer seconded. The motion passed unanimously.

Next steps include the applicant obtaining building permits, sign permits and required federal, state and local licensing before opening.
