Muhlenberg County board approves slate of routine motions, bids and calendar changes

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education voted unanimously on a series of routine motions Wednesday, approving an amended agenda, accepting the treasurer's report, authorizing payment of bills and salaries, awarding several construction and service bids, and approving personnel and calendar items.
The board added three items to the evening's agenda — designation of traceable communication systems, awards for two roofing projects and a parking-lot resurfacing — and approved the amended agenda before taking up regular business.
The board accepted the treasurer's report showing May revenues of $3,864,000 (an increase of about $407,000 from the prior month and about $409,000 from the same period last year) and payroll totaling $6,117,944. The board approved payment of $1,069,853.32 in bills and salaries, with significant checks to Sports Turf ($384,006.80), Pax and Patterson ($243,935) and CNC Contracting ($185,940).
On contracts and equipment, the board: - Awarded a bid for required CDL (DOT) physicals to Community Health Centers (one bid received). - Accepted the lowest responsive bids to replace roofing at Muhlenberg County High School and Muhlenberg County Middle School. The combined low bids total approximately $856,000 (board discussion noted a budget line of $975,000 originally for one school). - Awarded a parking-lot resurfacing (referred to in the meeting as a "ceiling" or "sealing") at Muhlenberg South Elementary to American Asphalt Sealing (one quote received).
In personnel and calendar actions, the board: - Approved the addition of stipends on the extra-duty schedule for a kindergarten camp (fully locally funded). - Approved an amended 2024-25 school calendar that included swapped instructional/work days and listed NTI and early-release dates. - Authorized early posting of the student data specialist position to allow on-the-job training before an October 1 retirement.
The board also approved the first reading of the Kentucky School Boards Association (KSBA) policy update number 48 and the review/approval of KSBA board procedure update number 29, both annual updates tied to recent state legislation. Finally, the board approved its consent agenda, including minutes of the prior meeting and school resource officer (SRO) contracts with the cities of Central City and Greenville.
