Board completes first reading of 2025–26 budget; general fund nearly $12 million

Clinton City Schools conducted the first reading of its 2025–26 budget and approved it on a roll-call vote after staff reviewed revenue and expenditure assumptions.
Administrators presented the general purpose school fund budget at roughly $12 million and said federal projects and school nutrition numbers remain preliminary. The federal projects packet lists Title I and IDEA as the largest grants, each around $250,000 in the district’s worksheet, and staff cautioned the board that final allocations usually arrive in May or June.
The board packet also shows a proposed school nutrition budget of about $615,000 and staff explained that revenues and expenditures in that fund change with participation and vendor costs. "If USDA doesn't keep up with inflation, which they have done a pretty decent job in the past 3 or 4 years, ... the rates affect our revenue and expenditures," a staff presenter said while reviewing the food-service contract relationship.
The budget discussion included a note that the city annually provides a $60,000 technology allocation for student devices; staff said they had not yet included that transfer in the proposed budget pending confirmation from the city.
Board members voted to approve the 2025–26 budget on first reading by roll call. Staff said they expect minor changes after final federal allocations are confirmed but that the general structure of the budget is in place for the coming fiscal year.
The board will consider the second reading later in the budget schedule.
