Chatham County commissioners voted to adopt the fiscal year 2025–26 budget on June 16, 2025, following two public hearings and a budget work session earlier in the month.
The budget was presented to the board in public meetings in Pittsboro and Siler City and revised after the board’s guidance during a budget work session, County Manager Bridal Thompson told the board before the vote. The board approved the ordinance during the evening session by voice vote; no roll-call tally was given in the record.
The county manager’s office and finance department worked through requests and adjustments after public comment and the board’s direction, Thompson said, and staff described the ordinance as the board’s budget now that it had been adopted. Commissioners had no additional amendments on the floor at the time of adoption.
Commissioners discussed the process during the meeting and thanked staff for preparing the recommended budget and supporting materials. The board’s packet and budget documents will be available through county staff for public review, the manager’s office said.
The vote ends the formal budget adoption process for the fiscal year starting July 1; the manager and department leaders will implement the work plan, monitor expenditures, and return to the board if adjustments are needed during the fiscal year.
The adoption followed a series of related actions taken at the June 16 meeting, including approvals of program changes and reports that will be funded from the adopted budget.
