New Rochelle honors Reverend Dr. Allen Paul Weaver Jr. with proclamation

Mayor Yadira Ramos Herbert presented a proclamation honoring Reverend Doctor Allen Paul Weaver Jr., citing five decades of spiritual leadership, 43 years as pastor of Bethesda Baptist Church of New Rochelle, academic work and civic service.
The mayor’s proclamation noted Weaver’s degrees from Florida Memorial University, Colgate Rochester Divinity School and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary, and said his work included training ministers, international missions and civic participation such as serving as president of the NAACP and participating on the city’s charter revision commission.
A family member accepted the recognition and said, “My father loved New Rochelle and he loved the people of New Rochelle,” adding that Weaver died two years ago on Juneteenth and that the family is grateful for the honor. The family member said the date now has special significance because it marks both Juneteenth and Weaver’s passing.
Several Bethesda Baptist Church members stood with the family while the proclamation was read; a city representative thanked the church and the Weaver family for the pastor’s long service.
The program placed the proclamation alongside other community recognitions presented during the evening.
