Oro Valley accepts donated home to fund Vistoso Trails Nature Preserve restoration and memorial

The Oro Valley Town Council unanimously approved a gift agreement on June 18 to accept a donated home from donor Mona Zimmerman and to use proceeds to support the Vistoso Trails Nature Preserve desert restoration project and a memorial area. The council adopted Resolution R25-32 by a 7-0 vote.
Parks and Recreation Director (presenting) explained that Zimmerman inherited the property after her brother's passing and offered to donate it with the intent that proceeds fund revegetation, habitat restoration and a memorial area honoring her brother. Staff described a concept plan for a memorial space that includes stone seating, shade trees, a bottle-filling water fountain, a memorial plaque and bike racks. The donor participated in the concept reviews and provided photos and preferences for the design.
Director Epting (presenter) said staff would perform title searches, appraisals, and obtain closing-cost estimates, then engage a qualified broker to sell the property; sale-related costs would be paid from the house proceeds. Councilmember Green thanked Zimmerman for the gift and Mayor Winfield expressed condolences.
Council moved and passed Resolution R25-32 to accept the gift and authorize the town manager to complete due diligence and close on the property if terms were reasonable. The vote was 7-0.
Ending: Staff said it would follow the gift-of-property policies (title searches, lien checks, appraisal) and bring any naming questions to council for approval.
