Ravena Village board approves audited bills, OKs budget transfers and schedules July 25 block dance

Ravena Village trustees approved two audited-bill abstracts totaling $94,386.88 and accepted a set of small budget transfers during a short meeting, and officials announced several upcoming community events and park updates.

The board voted to pay audited vouchers in two abstracts: abstract 12-4-25 (vouchers 12-113 through 12-132) for $45,437.26 and abstract 1-2-25 (vouchers 1-8 through 1-20) for $48,949.62. "I make a motion that we pay the audited bills for abstract 12-4-25," said a board member identified in the transcript as Speaker 5; the motion was seconded and approved. A board member identified as Speaker 1 moved and a second was recorded for the other payments and for approval of minutes from the June 3, 2025 meeting.

The board also accepted a set of small budget transfers requested by Sue King, described in the meeting as a "laundry list of small transfers" intended to square the budget for 02/24/25. A board member identified as Speaker 1 moved to accept the transfers and the motion was seconded and approved.

Trustees received brief community and operations updates. The RC Sportsman's Club held a fishing derby at the village water-filtration-plant site in Queen's; the event had strong youth participation despite debris in the river following recent storms. Village officials reported that the red light on Mountain Road in 9W has malfunctioned and that the Department of Transportation has been contacted for repairs.

Mosier Park improvements were highlighted: a new backstop funded by a grant is installed and described as "perfectly safe," and a splash pad is awaiting two small parts before opening. Officials said they will install a water meter in front of the splash-pad site to track usage and bill accordingly.

Village event planning was discussed. The board confirmed a village block dance on Friday, July 25, from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. behind the Ravena Firehouse (on the old basketball courts). The Ravena Fire Department will be the sole food vendor at the dance as a fundraiser. The board said the event will not be opened to outside vendors because the fire department will be the exclusive food provider.

A letter from Girl Scout Daisy Troop 5099 asking the village to spread instructions for making "no-sew reusable totes" from old T-shirts was read aloud; officials said the instructions could be posted on the village website and Facebook page. Trustees also noted that three years of Mosier Park pool revenues and expenses are available to residents on request from the village clerk’s office; the report breaks out lifeguard, director, telephone, electric, chemicals and repair costs.

Other routine items included a report that the village recycling day filled multiple dumpsters and that village staff and a worker from the village assisted with machinery to crush materials at Russell Avenue. The Ravena Fire Company reported a new member beginning Firefighter I training and noted volunteer needs for an upcoming festival.

The meeting ended after routine business with a motion to adjourn that was seconded and approved.
