Republic Services presented two nonprofit grants at the Fountain Hills council meeting, awarding $5,000 each to the Fountain Hills Protect Our Youth Coalition and the Boys & Girls Club of Fountain Hills.
Amanda (staff) and a Republic Services representative explained the town receives $10,000 annually from Republic Services to distribute to local nonprofits. Town staff said that because of a timing transition the town will receive $20,000 in this fiscal year and split the awards into two $5,000 grants for local organizations this cycle.
Tammy Bell and Elizabeth Waters from the Protect Our Youth Coalition accepted a $5,000 check and described plans to use the funds for the “Above That” Club, launched earlier in 2025 to educate middle‑school students about drug, alcohol and vaping risks. Elizabeth Waters said the students asked for a peer‑led club to raise awareness; several youth club members spoke briefly at the presentation.
Lauren Stratton, branch director of the local Boys & Girls Club, accepted the second $5,000 award and told council the funds will help offset financial assistance for families: the club reports about 42% of regular after‑school participants receive financial aid.
Town staff and Republic Services joined the presentations for a photo opportunity in the council chambers.
