District curriculum advisory reports draft review cycle, creates building-level curriculum leaders

District staff presented the year-end report from the curriculum advisory team at the June 16 Saint Croix School District board meeting, describing a draft curriculum-review cycle, staff training and plans for building-level leadership.
A facilitator summarized the committee’s work: five meetings during the school year that combined investigation, learning and collaboration; a review of district needs and external curriculum resources; and development of a flowchart and draft timeline for future pilot adoption. The facilitator told the board the committee selected members to represent a range of grade levels and content areas “so that this was not a secondary ELA committee or a math-only committee.”
The committee said it aimed to create “another six curriculum leaders in our district” who can advise teachers in their buildings during future adoptions and implementation. The group also tested a proposed web page layout to communicate curriculum and instruction information to staff and the public and reported giving feedback to building-level leadership teams (BLTs) earlier in the year.
Committee members said next steps include revising the draft based on feedback, piloting the review process and beginning a focused K–12 science review next year. Board members thanked the group and discussed scaling the work; one board member noted the district would likely transition some committee compensation to an uncompensated, virtual-support model in future years while maintaining the work.
The report contained no motions requiring immediate board action; the draft review cycle and suggested next steps will be implemented by district staff as part of ongoing curriculum work.
