Ellis County agrees to supply labor, equipment for Hays chip seal; Victoria request deferred to July

Ellis County commissioners on June 17 approved a request from the City of Hays for county equipment and labor to apply chip seal to a parking lot area at the municipal golf course. The county will provide machinery and crews while the city supplies oil and aggregate; no county cash payment was required.
Public works staff said the job is a short work window best done before harvest operations begin. The county estimated the Hays project would take less than a single crew day; commissioners approved the county public works department assisting the city and recorded a 3-0 vote in favor.
Separately, the commission discussed a pending request from the City of Victoria for road improvements. Chair Michael Burgess told fellow commissioners he revisited the Victoria site and suggested $25,000 as a discretionary amount the county might provide from public-works project funds. Commissioners agreed to follow normal procurement practice and to place a PO request or formal approval on the July 1 agenda to allow staff time to finalize the amount and paperwork.
Commissioners said the Victoria request would come from fund 78 (public works projects) if approved; no PO or funds were approved at the June 17 meeting. Staff will prepare the Victoria PO and the project-manager agenda materials for July so the commission can consider the expenditure during the regular agenda process.
