Hooper — The council introduced Brandon Miles as the city's contracted prosecutor for criminal matters during the meeting. Miles said he moved to the city last fall and will provide prosecutorial services while drawing on resources from the Weber County Attorney's Office.
Brandon Miles identified himself as "chief criminal deputy" with the Weber County Attorney's Office and said he has been a prosecutor there for almost 22 years and supervises other attorneys. "I've done every kind of case from basic traffic cases all the way to capital murder," he said. He told the council he can assign other attorneys from his office to cover city cases when needed and that his schedule is flexible to accommodate the city's calendar.
Miles cautioned he does not practice civil law: "My background is not civil ... I feel like people who spend more of their career in that, including people with my own office that are civil," he said, and recommended the city retain or contract separately for civil matters if necessary. The council thanked Miles for coming and no formal contract vote was recorded during the meeting.
Ending: Miles said he would work with the mayor and staff to finalize arrangements; council members expressed appreciation for his willingness to serve the city.
