The Liberty Elementary District governing board voted 5-0 to contract Arizona School Administrators (ASA) to serve as the search agent for an interim superintendent and approved ASA to proceed with the interim search process.
At the meeting ASA representative (Mister Jornstad/Jornstead) outlined two scheduling options: an expedited "gold" timeline that would close applications in late June and interview finalists in early July, and a slightly slower option that allows additional screening meetings. The ASA compensation schedule (Exhibit C) was noted as $3,500 plus expenses and includes three search meetings; board members asked staff to circulate the contract document and cost exhibit to members for review.
Board members discussed qualifications and screening criteria. Board members emphasized a preference for candidates with prior superintendent experience and strong district finance knowledge. The board asked the search agent to keep the job application concise to allow a short application window; members agreed not to require fresh transcript requests or multiple lengthy essays to speed the timeline.
The board gave direction for a near-term schedule: close applications on or about June 27, 2025; hold a screening meeting June 30, 2025 at 3:30 p.m.; and conduct finalist interviews on July 2, 2025, starting at noon. The board also signaled a preference to interview roughly four candidates (three to five discussed; consensus centered on four). Members requested vetting steps and background/reference checks be undertaken on finalists, and discussed that current-employer references may be checked only when an offer is imminent to avoid jeopardizing a candidate’s current employment.
The board approved two separate motions: (1) to secure Arizona School Administrators as the search agent and (2) to proceed with ASA’s interim superintendent search under the timeline and process discussed. Both motions passed by roll-call vote, 5-0.
