"I just wanna understand what the bigger picture is if there is such a bigger picture," the commissioner said, asking for documentation on a three- to five-year strategy. The director replied, "Okay. Yes, sir. I'll be happy to provide that information to you and to your colleagues. There is a plan. It is expensive to rehab, spaces that are on the register. And it's not necessarily that we're doing it piece by piece, but we're working in conjunction with state grants that are available and and attacking projects in that manner."
The director said the county is eager to start the next phase but emphasized that rehabilitation of historically registered buildings is costly. No new funding allocations or formal approvals were made at the agenda-setting session; the exchange occurred during the department's presentation of items that will appear on the board's regular meeting agenda.
