Council asks staff to research accelerating road paving, stormwater and asset maintenance

During the goals workshop the Ojai City Council asked staff to research options to accelerate the street‑paving program and to return an analysis of potential cost savings and logistical constraints. Members discussed whether increasing pavement work in a single cycle could save money by avoiding worse pavement deterioration in later years.
Staff flagged existing capital‑improvement projects already in the program — including pedestrian crossings, ATP (Active Transportation Program) Phase 2 work on Ojai Avenue and stormwater/drainage improvements — and said those projects would come forward in the usual capital process. Council also asked staff to prepare a city asset‑maintenance schedule that inventories buildings, equipment and fleet needs and estimates future investments.
Council requested staff reports that describe funding implications, contractor capacity and timelines so council can consider whether to accelerate pavement work in the coming fiscal year.
