Roselle Park celebrates students, teachers and athletic champions in year-end recognitions

Athletics and coaches: Athletic Director Mr. Kane recognized the girls’ softball team for finishing first in the Mountain Division and noted the long service of head coach Fran Maggio. Individual athletes received all-division honors and the board gave public recognition to a student who was named first team all-division in hockey while playing on a combined-communities roster.
Year-end district review: Superintendent Goyce and Assistant Superintendent Dr. Gamas presented a year-end review covering curriculum initiatives (standards-based instruction, expanded early-literacy efforts, a new social-studies curriculum), special-services goals (increased inclusion/LRE and transition services), preschool expansion (from seven to 12 classrooms), technology improvements, facilities projects (secure vestibules, HVAC upgrades and playground paving) and plans to standardize elementary instructional schedules and create a gifted-and-talented handbook.
Teacher and staff honors: The board recognized building teachers of the year and the district educator of the year, naming several staff members from the elementary buildings, Robert Gordon, Sherman and the high school.
Ending: The recognitions and year-end report emphasized student achievements and district program improvements, and the board thanked staff and families for the school year.
