Johnston City Council on Monday adopted Resolution No. 25-144, the city's second and final budget amendment for fiscal year 2025, increasing the year—s revenue estimate by $4,470,000 and decreasing appropriations by $3,100,000.
Sarah, a city finance staff member, told the council the largest revenue increase is approximately $2,300,000 in interest earnings that were not originally budgeted. Staff also reported higher-than-expected local option sales tax and hotel-motel tax receipts and about $900,000 in additional financing sources, including equipment sales and bond proceeds that exceeded original estimates.
On the expenditure side, Sarah said the city will reduce budgeted spending by about $3,100,000. That includes roughly $2,800,000 in capital-project allocations that will not begin until the next fiscal year and about $1,500,000 in developer agreement payments that were paid earlier than anticipated. Sarah offered to provide department-level details if council members wanted them.
The public hearing on the amendment drew no speakers. The council voted to approve Resolution No. 25-144; roll-call votes recorded “yes” from Redding, Jim Burkhardt, Cope, Evans and Martin, and the motion passed.
