Staff said they have about 20 culverts to replace and are coordinating with a planned Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) job that may shift the county’s schedule; if the MoDOT project is delayed, county crews may start earlier on the listed roads. The county’s mow crews and a bucket truck remain active, and a prisoner crew of roughly three to four people handles litter pickup.
Staff also described a recurring issue in which residents divert stormwater by blocking culverts; officials said blocking or rerouting culverts can violate state law and damage the roadbed. The county said some problematic situations are within homeowners associations (HOAs) that maintain internal stormwater systems, but county road staff explained the county maintains the road surface and can be affected when private changes undermine drainage. The county said blocking culverts can lead to fines and may cause erosion undermining the road.
Ending: Road staff will continue overlays and culvert replacements and will coordinate timing with any MoDOT projects; residents with drainage disputes were advised to contact the county for guidance.
