Commission honors two sergeants and a Richmond Station citizen for lifesaving and investigative work

The Police Commission on June 18 presented awards recognizing two San Francisco Police Department sergeants and a citizen who provided lifesaving assistance at a traffic collision.
Lieutenant Zagari of the Investigations Bureau introduced Sergeant Gordon Lee, star 1628, and Sergeant Maria Peregrina for a successful investigation resolving a difficult assault case. Commissioners and Chief Yap praised the officers’ investigative work and community impact; Lee accepted the recognition on behalf of Sergeant Peregrina, who was not present.
Captain Chris Canning and Sergeant Eric Mahoney of Richmond Station presented a citizen-recognition award to Odette Horsetouse for actions at a May 8 vehicle collision on Fulton Street. Sergeant Mahoney recounted arriving first on scene and seeing a vehicle wedged under a truck with an injured passenger; Horsetouse, identified herself as a registered nurse and provided airway management, neck stabilization and assisted until fire department personnel arrived.
“Miss Odette maintained an airway and stabilized the passenger's neck until the fire department personnel arrived,” Mahoney said. Odette Horsetouse accepted the recognition and thanked firefighters, EMS and police. Commissioners commended her bravery and the cooperative response among SFPD, fire and EMS.
No public comment was made on the recognition items.
