Police Commission adopts revised missing-persons policy and updated vehicle-tow policy

The San Francisco Police Commission on June 18 adopted a revised Department General Order 6.1 on missing persons and approved an updated Department General Order 9.06 governing vehicle tows for meet-and-confer with bargaining units.
President Don Clay moved to adopt the revised missing-persons policy, DGO 6.1. The motion carried 5–0; Commissioner Scott, Commissioner Yee, Commissioner Elias, Vice President Benedicto and President Clay all voted yes.
On DGO 9.06 (vehicle tows), Traffic Unit subject-matter expert Mike Olkowitz described updates including reorganization for clarity, incorporation of department bulletins, updated vehicle-code references, guidance encouraging drivers to contact their own tow companies when a vehicle does not need to be impounded for evidence, and use of body-worn camera (BWC) support for the “hold harmless” release form at scenes. Commissioners moved and seconded the measure and voted 5–0 to approve it for meet-and-confer.
No public comments were made on either item before the votes were recorded.
Both orders will proceed through the department’s labor relations process as required by law.
