Fire Chief Jim Big described the procurement: the city will pay for the chassis now and pay the balance at delivery; the first delivery date is expected in December and the second in May. Chief Big said the vendor is reputable and that neighboring Brownsville purchases ambulances from the same supplier. He said purchasing two new units will reduce the risk of having too few ambulances available for island service and that one older van will be sold, with proceeds returned to the general fund.
Council members asked about warranty and chassis-builder responsibilities; staff said prior experience with the vendor has not indicated recurring warranty disputes. A motion to approve the purchase agreement was made and seconded; the council approved the agreement by voice vote.
