San Antonio certifies 2025 runoff results; Gina Ortiz Jones and three councilmembers sworn in

City Secretary Debiraka Siter presented the official canvass at the start of the session, saying she would “presentar el día de hoy el informe oficial de escrutinio de el 2025, de la segunda vuelta de elecciones,” and noting the election had been ordered Feb. 7, 2025, with a runoff held May 27–June 3, 2025. Siter said results were provided to the city secretary on June 16 and the canvass was presented to the council on June 18.
The canvass listed winners for the contested seats announced at the meeting as: Rick Galván (District 6), Evelys Meza González (District 8) and Misty Spears (District 9), and Gina Ortiz Jones for mayor. The secretary reported vote percentages for several contests during her presentation; for example, the transcript records that Misty Spears received roughly 56.71 percent of the vote in her contest.
Council moved to approve agenda item 1, the certification of the canvass, and the motion passed. The meeting record does not show a mover/second or a roll-call tally in the transcript excerpt; the clerk announced the motion had passed and the city proceeded to the oath of office.
Following certification, the new councilmembers and mayor took the oath “en nombre de y por la autoridad del estado de Texas” and assumed their seats. The clerk invited the newly sworn officials to take their places on the dais and the meeting continued with the newly constituted council.
Outgoing Mayor Ron Nirenberg delivered remarks before the oath, offering thanks to staff and colleagues and urging the new council to protect city institutions. “Que bendigan a todos en San Antonio,” he said as part of his closing comments.
The session recorded the formal swearing-in immediately after the canvass was certified, and the clerk confirmed a quorum of the newly seated council members before adjourning the ceremonial portion of the meeting.
