The City Council on June 18 approved a change order to the construction contract for the city's apparatus bay (fire station apparatus bay phase 1) that adds motorized doors and a concrete-floor sealer intended to protect heavy truck traffic and prolong the slab's useful life.
Assistant engineer Alex Ramos told the council the change order contains two principal elements: (1) motorized overhead doors to speed apparatus deployment and reduce manual handling; and (2) a commercial flooring product (a concrete surface coating) to protect the slab from heat and wear from large ladder-truck tires. Ramos said the existing building predates contemporary electrical and building-code assumptions, so some electrical work and component selection required late-stage adjustment, making the change order necessary.
Staff recommended and council approved a change order in the amount of $32,144 and two related budget amendments to the fire-impact fee capital improvements line for FY24–25 ($15,000) and FY25–26 ($17,144). Councilmembers said protecting the new facility now reduces long-term maintenance costs.
Formal action: council approved the change order and the fiscal adjustments by voice vote.
