Pastor Joel Larson used the June 17 public comment period to inform the Monrovia City Council that the First Presbyterian Church of Monrovia will replant under a new name, Monrovia Community Church, with a replanting service planned for Sept. 14.
Larson said the congregation has been in Monrovia for more than 100 years and is renaming to reduce barriers and signal a stronger local focus. He said the church will remain in its Foothill Boulevard location at Myrtle, will continue to operate Tiny Treasures Preschool (serving more than 75 students) and will host community programs, including a partnership with the Foothill Academy of Vocal Arts and a Mary Poppins sing‑along camp that has 40 campers. He also said a local homeschool cooperative of more than 200 families will use church facilities in the fall.
Larson invited the council to participate in the replanting service and said the church intends to increase its community‑facing activities.
