Davis County OKs agreements for shooting range reopening; grand reopening set for June 28

The Davis County Commission on June 17 approved a package of agreements and donations to support the reopening and operations of the Davis County Shooting Range and heard details about a planned grand reopening.

Chief Deputy Arnold Butcher described five items from the sheriff's office that commissioners approved: a material donation of lumber from Home Depot to support target stands; a Johnson Controls contract for metisys migration for the county jail ($105,188); a temporary license agreement for SymX Tactical Solutions to use the shooting range (no fee, short-term through June 28, 2025); and two annual limited-use agreements with Lakeview Rifle and Pistol organizations (a receivable of $151,560 for one group and $2,700 for another). The commission approved items 18 through 22 by voice vote.

Butcher gave a schedule and purpose for the facility: “On June 28 at 10AM, Saturday, we're going to be having a grand reopening. It's gonna be open to the public,” he said. He described the range as a training facility used by public-safety agencies across Davis County and occasionally by state or federal agencies; the range will also allow public shooting on designated days and host events managed by shooting clubs.

Commissioners and staff credited work by Public Works and Information Systems staff, the school district’s donation of classroom space for training, and county employees who helped restore and improve the facility.

Ending: The commission approved the agreements that enable training and public access; the sheriff’s office said the range will be free to the public during the grand reopening weekend and then operate under standard policies and vendor agreements.
