Council honors Officer Angel Gomez for Narcan response that city says saved a life

The Tehachapi City Council presented a commendation to Officer Angel Gomez for his actions on May 2 when he and a partner responded to a person who was both under the influence and later assessed as suicidal.
A city presenter described that while Officer Gomez was transporting the person to Adventist Hospital the subject slumped in the rear of the patrol vehicle; Officer Gomez pulled over, removed the person from the car with assistance and administered two doses of naloxone (Narcan), reviving the individual. Staff said that when ambulance resources were not immediately available firefighters assisted and the person was transported to the hospital; staff credited the quick response and the department's Narcan program for saving the person's life.
The presenter noted that Narcan is used by police in Tehachapi as well as by paramedics and firefighters, and that the doses and unused supplies are managed through a replacement program. Council acknowledged the department’s hiring progress and growth since Chief Standridge’s tenure.
The council read and presented a commendation; during the item council discussed Narcan shelf life and replacement procedures and praised the officers involved.
