Council awards Pravallis Center renovation bid and approves architect construction administration

The Crockett City Council awarded the construction contract for phases 2 and 3 of the Pravallis Center renovation at 1505 South Fourth Street and approved construction administration services for the project.
City staff said the work will expand and reconfigure interior space to allow the tenant to grow from about 42 current employees toward a planned headcount. The city previously set aside $550,000 from economic development funds for the build-out. Two bids were received; one bidder submitted an incomplete bid and lacked required bonding documents. Langston Industrial Group of Lufkin submitted the only complete, qualified bid and its total for the construction alternates was $391,400.
Council voted to award the construction contract to Langston and to approve the contract. Staff said Langston indicated they could mobilize immediately, with a target start near July 1 and a 100-day construction period. The council also approved Don B. Hill Architect and Engineering to provide construction administration and inspection services for $14,500 to review draw requests, inspect progress and reduce city liability on the project.
Why it matters: The phased construction approach allows tenant operations to expand gradually while work proceeds. The bid came in below the city’s previously allocated $550,000, reducing immediate pressure on the EDC allocation.
