Wayne County Commission honors Belleville High boys track team after Division 1 state title

The Wayne County Commission on June 11 recognized the Belleville High School boys track team and coach Candace Davis Price for winning the 2025 Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 1 Lower Peninsula state championship.
Commissioner Allen Wilson introduced the presentation and read a resolution praising the team’s season and Coach Price’s role. The resolution noted the Tigers’ 57–35 victory over Northfield High School and described Coach Candace Davis Price as “the first female coach to lead a boys’ team to a championship,” language Wilson included when presenting the item.
Coach Candace Davis Price addressed the commission and the assembled athletes. She highlighted the team’s depth and individual accomplishments and noted recruiting news: “Jaden has a full ride scholarship. When I say full ride, he's not paying for anything to the University of South Florida,” Price said, referring to athlete Jaden Smith.
Commissioners presented certificates to the team members and coach during the meeting. The presentation included brief remarks recognizing girls’ teams from Belleville who had also achieved a conference championship that season.
The record shows the team received the commission’s testimonial recognition and an onstage presentation; the meeting transcript does not include a separate roll-call vote for the resolution. A suitable copy of the resolution and certificates were delivered to the coach and team during the meeting.
The commission’s recognition comes amid several other ceremonial items on the agenda; commissioners and the chair encouraged public applause and acknowledged the athletes’ academic as well as athletic accomplishments.
