York City HRC to provide July fair-housing training, join state and international workshops

HRC staff told commissioners the commission has been asked to provide fair-housing training for the York County Homeless Coalition in July and that staff will include Pennsylvania-specific landlord-tenant information.
Staff said they are participating on the Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission (PHRC) civil tensions task force and that PHRC will hold a local gathering to explain its civil-rights work. Staff also reported an invitation from a Human Rights International office to submit a proposal for a week-long training in Philadelphia, tentatively beginning Aug. 14, focused on diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging (DEIB) strategies and community implementation.
Staff said the fair-housing training will address local landlord-tenant rights and responsibilities and noted limitations in public-facing resources that prompted the wider session; staff also warned that some federal grant programs have screening rules that disqualify applications containing specific trigger words and said that those trigger words can include terms such as “female” and “women.”
Ending: Staff said they will share dates and training materials with commissioners and finalize logistics for the July session and the proposed August training.
