Board adopts year-end evaluation of Superintendent Rick West; rating recorded as "effective" under new state guidance

The Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education adopted the completed year-end evaluation for Superintendent Rick West during the June 16 meeting. The board conducted a closed session earlier in the day for the superintendent's performance evaluation and later adopted the evaluation in public session with a recorded vote of 6'00.
Board President Hill summarized the review in open session, noting that West completed an extensive initial 90-day plan after taking office last summer and that the board evaluated performance in light of the unusual circumstance that this was West's first full school year as superintendent.
President Hill said the board's collective rating for West was "effective" and clarified that under Michigan's new superintendent-evaluation guidelines "effective" is the highest possible rating. The board and West identified areas of focus for 2025'26; trustees expect to adopt a new set of superintendent goals at the July meeting and to conduct a midyear review at the end of 2025 or in early 2026.
A motion to adopt the completed year-end evaluation was moved and seconded and passed 6'00.
