Board appoints Joseph Duda assistant superintendent of human resources and Title IX compliance officer

The Bloomfield Hills Schools Board of Education on June 16 approved the administrative appointment of Joseph Duda as assistant superintendent of human resources and Title IX compliance officer, with an effective date of July 1, 2025.

Superintendent Rick West recommended Duda, saying he brings over 25 years of experience in public education, including roles as a high school assistant principal, a middle-school principal for more than a decade, and work in human resources and employee relations with Rochester Community Schools. West said Duda holds advanced degrees in educational leadership from Oakland University and in science education from Wayne State University and is a certified HR specialist.

West told trustees the candidate was selected through a two-step interview process that included staff from every building level, special-education staff, HR administration, cabinet and union leadership, and that stakeholder feedback highlighted Duda's calm, collaborative leadership and understanding of human-resources work.

Duda addressed the board and described himself as a lifelong public-school educator. He said recruiting, hiring and retaining staff are among his highest priorities and emphasized building relationships, honesty and trust.

Board action: A trustee moved to acknowledge Joseph Duda as assistant superintendent of human resources and Title IX compliance officer, effective July 1, 2025; the motion was seconded and passed 6'00.
