Construction report: North Polk opens new fields, CTE on track; minor change orders and bird‑proofing noted

The district’s facilities presenter, Garrett, told the board the new baseball and softball fields are complete enough to have hosted grand‑opening events and that crews are finishing punch‑list items.

Garrett said contractors pushed to complete work in the final weeks, and the district aims to wrap closeout work promptly. He described additional work included in consent items: replacement of tile and installation of luxury vinyl tile in older elementary classrooms where restrooms open into classrooms, and separate electrical bids (outdoor electrical by Cirrus Systems and indoor electrical by a second low bidder) to power new scoreboards.

On the CTE building, Garrett reported terrazzo flooring was placed (not yet polished), ceiling grid is installed, borders are cut and painted, and the district is still on track for a July 30 substantial completion. He said classrooms and shop equipment are being moved into place and staff will coordinate infrastructure and turn‑over details.

Board members asked about site details and maintenance costs. Members and staff discussed mini‑split HVAC units in coach rooms that are not insulated; Garrett said the design intent is for them to run only when spaces are occupied and that staff would check whether the units are on timers or manual on/off. The board also discussed bird intrusion and soffit/paneling work: an unanticipated softening (soffit) fit around dugouts produced a change order just under $6,000 for materials and labor to keep birds out. Garrett said some pending work — such as a concrete pad for a ticket booth — will be scheduled after the season to avoid field disruption.

Superintendent Michael Klein and board members thanked contractors, district staff and volunteers for coordinating the recent events on the new fields and for work on the CTE building. Klein noted the district met opening schedules and complimented communications and operations staff for event coordination.

Ending District staff said they will complete punch‑list items and follow up on action items noted in consent approvals (electrical contracts, flooring installations and bird‑proofing). The CTE building remains on track for a July 30 substantial completion date.
