Mooresville adopts consolidated utilities ordinance to modernize rules on water, sewer and services

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners on June 16 adopted an updated Chapter 24 utilities ordinance that consolidates and modernizes town rules governing water, sewer and related services.
Allison Craft presented the second reading and said the revised ordinance collates material from the town's utility services policy and the sewer-use ordinance into a single code chapter, updates statutory references, and codifies enforcement provisions including penalties for meter tampering and cross-connection violations. Craft said the ordinance includes chapters on general utilities, system development fees, water and sewer extensions, ann extation service rules, emergency water-conservation measures and sewer use/industrial pretreatment requirements.
Craft told the board Mooresville obtains water from Lake Norman, has a treatment capacity of 18 million gallons per day and is currently averaging about 8.5—29 million gallons per day. She said water-conservation stages are currently at stage 0 but may be updated as conditions warrant. She also noted construction will begin soon on a new Shepherd's elevated storage tank to support supply and distribution.
Commissioner Qualls moved to adopt the ordinance amending Chapter 24; Commissioner Keriker seconded and the motion carried.
