PENDER COUNTY, N.C. June 16, 2025 County staff and a local volunteer introduced a new Pender County web page designed to centralize listings for volunteer opportunities and nonprofit needs across the county.
Overview: County public information staff said the page collects volunteer opportunities from food pantries, hospitals, parks and other nonprofits so residents and newcomers can more easily find openings and sign-up contacts. Volunteer leader Cynthia Tart described the site as an "infant" stage and said she has worked with public information to compile lists and will continue to expand the directory.
Why it matters: Commissioners praised the effort as a way to mobilize local volunteerism, assist nonprofit recruitment and make county volunteer needs more visible. Staff said the page is live and can be expanded; organizations can submit listings by email to the county public information office.
Next steps: Staff asked commissioners to help publicize the page and to notify nonprofits to submit listings. The county will monitor use and propose enhancements as needed.
