Mooresville board adopts updated mobility plan to qualify for federal transportation funds

The Mooresville Board of Commissioners on June 16 unanimously approved the Mooresville Mobility Plan, a multi-modal transportation strategy that identifies roadway connections, pedestrian improvements and priorities for regional funding.
Sophie King, the town's transportation planner, told the board the mobility plan identifies critical transportation connectivity and mobility needs, incorporates input from a steering committee and the public (more than 600 survey responses), and ranks greenway and sidewalk projects. King said the plan also updates future right-of-way dedication requirements so new development preserves space for future road and multiuse-path improvements.
King highlighted four intersections selected for conceptual design and cost estimating: the Pampas/Reinhardt connector, Heatherly Road extension, Bromley Road extension and the McCrary Road connector. The plan also prioritized the Kistler Farm Multiuse Path and the Spectrum Lake Norman pedestrian bridge for greenway and pedestrian improvement work.
Commissioner Qualls emphasized the time-sensitive nature of the vote, saying the plan must be adopted by June 30 to qualify for federal funds through the regional planning organization. Qualls moved to approve the mobility plan; Commissioner Jingler seconded and the motion passed.
Staff said following adoption the town will work with the Charlotte Regional Transportation Planning Organization to incorporate the priorities into regional plans and pursue funding.
