Committee approves rule docket to require facility attendance reporting for school funding implementation

State Board staff explained rule docket 08-0201-24401 to the House Committee on Education as a rule to require school districts to report attendance data specifying which students are physically on campus.
Mr. Reiber said the temporary rule authority had been used to collect data when the facilities funding bill from the prior session required distributions only for students physically on campus. "When facilities bill passed last year, we hit the ground running with the state department of education to figure out what kind of dollars need to go out to every school district because it was based both on attendance but also in that facilities bill there was a clause that said it is only for students in attendance that are physically on campus," Reiber said.
Representative Mathias moved to approve docket 08-0201-24401. The committee approved the docket by voice vote and the chair returned the gavel to committee leadership. Committee members discussed that a temporary rule had been used to implement the statutory directive quickly and that the permanent rule aligns reporting with the statutory requirements of the facilities funding law.
No roll-call vote was recorded for this docket; committee members expressed thanks to State Board staff for using temporary rule authority to implement statute in a timely fashion.
