Committee approves minutes, forwards gubernatorial appointment and several RS requests to print

BOISE — During the same meeting in which House Bill 7 was considered, the Senate Judiciary and Rules Committee approved routine business and several procedural matters by voice vote.
The committee approved the minutes of its Jan. 27, 2025 meeting after a motion from Senator Foreman and a second from Senator Shippy.
The panel also voted to forward the gubernatorial appointment of Colonel William Gardner to serve as director of the Idaho State Police to the full Senate with a recommendation that he be confirmed. Senator Melissa Wintrow moved the recommendation; Senator Foreman seconded the motion.
Committee members voted to send three requests (RS) to print for further drafting and consideration:
- RS32136 (presented by Senator Craig Berndt), a mandatory-minimum vehicular manslaughter/DUI draft — motion to send to print made by Senator Foreman and seconded by Senator Kaiser.
- RS32243 (presented by Senator Melissa Wintrow), a measure to standardize coroners' powers and duties — motion to send to print made by Senator Lent and seconded by Senator Foreman.
- RS32260 (presented by Senator Jim Guthrie), to incorporate anti-motorcycle-profiling language into local law-enforcement handbooks and training — motion to send to print made by Senator Foreman and seconded by Senator Ruckde.
All of the above motions were approved by voice vote during the committee meeting and will be printed or forwarded for further action.
