Committee roundup: minutes approved; two gubernatorial appointments recommended for confirmation

The committee approved the minutes from the Jan. 13, 2025 meeting on a motion by Senator Foreman, seconded by Senator Ricks; the motion carried on a voice vote.
The committee voted to recommend confirmation of Christine Starr as Executive Director to the Commission of Pardons and Parole. Senator Wintrow moved the recommendation and Senator Lent seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. The committee noted Senator Semarath represents Starr’s residence and that Senator Semarath will carry the nomination to the floor.
The committee also voted to recommend confirmation of Mary Martin to the Commission of Pardons and Parole. Senator Wintrow moved the recommendation and Senator Ricks seconded; the motion carried by voice vote. The committee noted Senator Galloway represents Martin’s residence and will carry that nomination to the floor.
Earlier in the same meeting the committee sent RS31967 (a print request to address swatting) to print and forwarded SB1001 (anti‑SLAPP, Uniform Public Expression Protection Act) to the Senate floor with a due‑pass recommendation; separate articles summarize each of those items.
All procedural votes in the meeting were recorded as voice votes; committee chairs called for aye/oppose and motions were announced as carried when no opposition was voiced.
