Greene County reconstitutes Recreation Advisory Board; commissioner recuses over relative's application

Greene County commissioners voted to reconstitute the Recreation Advisory Board after staff reported some appointments had lapsed and the board had not met for roughly a year.
County Manager reported nine applications and said the county ordinance permits boards with five to 11 members. The manager told commissioners that legal counsel advised Commissioner Jones to recuse himself from the appointments discussion because one applicant is a relative of his. The manager also said that another applicant is a part-time county employee and—after conferring with the county attorney—staff recommended not appointing part-time county employees to the advisory board.
“Of those nine applications, we have one applicant who is a relative of one of our commissioners—Commissioner Jones' nephew—and have to confirm with legal counsel it would be advisable that Commissioner Jones not participate in this particular part of the meeting tonight,” the county manager said.
After discussion about when the board last met, a motion to accept nominations and reconstitute the board (excluding the named ineligible/recused applicant) was approved by voice vote.
Staff said the county would update the website with appointment information once action was taken.
