Hartford City Council approved a consent calendar that included multiple appointments, grant acceptances and park matters, referred several items to committees and postponed consideration of a street-safety ordinance until the June 23 meeting.
On the consent calendar the council approved mayoral resolutions appointing Felipe Sanchez, Joshua Quinones and Joel Hicks Rivera to the Hartford LGBTQ+ Commission and confirming the appointment of Louis Irizarry. The council also approved resolutions to accept operating and capital support for the city's dollar-ride program: $68,418 from the Connecticut Department of Transportation and $134,500 from the Greater Hartford Transit District. The council accepted a grant of $18,500 from the National Environmental Health Association and the Food and Drug Administration and approved a resolution to accept a memorial marker honoring Jose Diaz Nieves from the Metropolitan District.
Council members also placed several items on the receive calendar and referred others to committees: a transfer of $276,867.65 to the suspense book for outstanding motor vehicle and personal property taxes was referred to the Operations, Management, Budget and Government Accountability Committee; acceptance of NRES credits related to a solar array at Low Lojis Road in Willington, Connecticut was referred to the Public Works, Parks, Recreation and Environment Committee; and a resolution establishing a Board of Education Equity and Funding Task Force was referred to the Labor, Education, Workforce and Youth Committee.
Council members voted to postpone Ordinance item 5.11, which would amend sections 31-87 and 31-95 of the municipal code addressing post-construction and post-repaving responsibilities, until the June 23 meeting. Separately, the council voted to place Ordinance item 5.12—an amendment to prohibit vehicle parking on grass at city-owned parks and green spaces—on the action committee agenda. The vote to advance item 5.12 passed with one "no" vote recorded by the council president.
The council handled the consent, receipt and referral actions by roll call; the clerk announced the votes after each call.
