County to take over Sellersville water and sewer; approves Kentmore Marina sewer connection

Queen Anne's County Commissioners voted on June 10 to execute agreements that will transfer ownership and operation of the Town of Sudlersville's water and sewer utilities to the Queen Anne's County Sanitary District and to assign the town's intergovernmental wastewater agreement for Barclay to the sanitary district.

County staff said they had met with Sellersville town officials and that the town council had accepted the agreements; town representatives expressed appreciation for the county stepping in to operate the systems after the town's previous operator departed. A motion to approve the agreements passed with an affirmative vote.

Commissioners also executed a public works agreement with Kentmore Marina LLC to allow the marina and restaurant at Kentmore to connect to county sewer as part of the marina's Phase 3 sewer project. That public works agreement was approved by motion and vote during the sanitary/ public works portion of the meeting.

County staff said the Sellersville arrangement includes county assumption of administrative and operational responsibilities and that the county will manage finances, operations and any assignment necessary to continue service to Barclay. Town officials told commissioners there was broad local support at a public meeting for the transfer. The county will follow statutory procedures to formalize the transfer and will assume day-to-day operations as described in the signed agreements.
