Council informed of Jordan Credit Union rezone request at 9360 S. 300 E.; final hearing set for June 10

Sandy City planning staff briefed the City Council on June 3 about a rezone application from Jordan Credit Union affecting property at 9360 South 300 East.

The applicant has applied to rezone two parcels, totaling about 0.98 acre, from R-18 to PO to legalize an existing commercial use and permit planned site improvements including reconfigured parking and a separated drive-through. Long Range Planning Manager Jake Warner said the building is a preexisting, nonconforming use in the R-18 zone that was in place when the site was annexed; the rezone would bring the use into conformance and allow the applicant’s proposed improvements.

Warner told the council the property is designated "institutional" on the city general plan and is part of the Sandy Expo Station area plan; he said the parcel was previously part of the school district campus and had been a Board of Education facility. He said the Planning Commission held a public hearing and forwarded a positive recommendation to the council. Warner said the rezone is a legislative item and will return to the council for final action at the June 10 meeting.

A representative of Jordan Credit Union attended the June 3 meeting but did not make a formal presentation; staff said a site plan and subdivision application were submitted alongside the rezone request and staff is available to answer council questions. No action was taken on June 3; the council is the final decision maker for the legislative rezone application and will consider it on June 10.
