The Petersburg City Council voted unanimously to add to the meeting agenda and adopt a resolution authorizing a competitive application to the Industrial Revitalization Fund to support demolition work on a formerly identified commercial property. The council also approved the consent agenda, which included several first readings and scheduled public hearings on property purchase agreements, zoning amendments and grant amendments.
The addition to the agenda was moved by Councilman Myers and seconded by Councilman Smith Lee; Vice Mayor Hill (the clerk) called the roll. Councilmembers Cuthbert, Jones, Myers and Smith Lee voted aye, and Mayor Perrin also voted aye. The motion carried. The formal resolution to authorize the competitive application was moved and seconded and passed by the same recorded roll-call pattern.
Why it matters: The Industrial Revitalization Fund application will support demolition work that the resolution described as necessary to move a redevelopment project forward; adding the resolution to the agenda allowed the council to act without delay. The consent agenda cleared a set of items that will advance multiple development and procedural matters to further review or public hearing.
Key details: The consent agenda items approved on first reading and scheduled for public hearing included ordinances authorizing the city manager to execute purchase agreements for properties at 135 Franklin Street; 116 and 120 North Jefferson Street; 723 Harton Street; 201 Graham Street and 617 South Sycamore Street; an amendment to the zoning ordinance regarding short-term rental uses; an amendment clarifying planning commission compensation; an ARB appeal for 224 East Fillmore Street (Poplar Lawn Historic District); allocation of Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds for program year 2025–26; and an amendment to the FY2026 grants fund. The motion to approve the consent agenda was moved by Councilwoman Smith Lee and seconded by Councilman Jones and passed on a roll call (Cuthbert, Jones, Myers, Smith Lee, Mayor Perrin: ayes).
