McFarland High students deliver end-of-year report to school board, highlight traditions and athletics

Students from McFarland High School presented the district's end-of-year student report during the McFarland School District board meeting, summarizing senior traditions, classroom projects and spring athletics.
The students told the board that on May 30 seniors paraded through McFarland Primary School, Wabusa Intermediate School, the intermediate school (IMS) and McFarland High School in caps and gowns. Juniors in English 11 created children's books and visited elementary classes to read them. The student presenters recognized WIAA scholar-athletes Isaac Ewing and Julia Ackley and listed classmates who qualified for upcoming WIAA state track and field events.
The report included season summaries for spring sports: softball (a one-run regional loss to Brodhead-Jefferson), girls lacrosse (first-round forfeit followed by a regional match at Oregon), boys lacrosse (regional loss to Hudson), baseball (two losses to Monona Grove), girls soccer (tie with Lake Mills and win over Sun Prairie West), boys golf (6th at regional; two golfers advanced), and boys tennis (sectional qualifiers). The students thanked staff who compile the "Spartan Scoop" newsletter for the weekly summaries.
Students announced upcoming school events: a new "senior sunset" tradition scheduled for June 4, commencement for the Class of 2025 at 11 a.m. on June 8 at the AGM, and the last day of school for students on June 5. Student leaders said the Connect program will not operate as-is next year; student council members will work with staff to continue elements of the program under student council oversight. Student presenter Ava Vincent was named as Connect president in the report.
District leaders thanked the students for presenting. The board and administration noted that hearing directly from students helps the district better understand school climate and programming.
The student presenters closed by thanking the board for the opportunity to speak and for support during the school year.
