Elections board removes seven registrations tied to cleared Lakeside Drive address

The Cherokee County Board of Elections voted unanimously to remove seven voter registrations after mailed notices to 640 Lakeside Drive were returned as undeliverable because the property has been cleared and no longer contains residences.

Elections staff told the board they drove to the address and found “nothing there except mud,” and that the former site had been a trailer park whose units have been removed to make way for future development. Staff said the mailings were returned for seven registrants and recommended that the names be removed from the rolls because the address no longer corresponds to a residential unit.

The board discussed that the 911/GIS addressing for the parcel may be revised as roads and housing are built and that the county will re‑add residents if and when new addresses are established. The seven registrations the board approved removing were listed by staff as Betty Newton, Brian Stanco, Jacob Smith, Donna Spencer, George Wilson, Christina Piper and Kelly Norbets. The board member motion to remove the names was seconded and carried without opposition.

Anne, the county’s elections director, told the board the returned letters and the lack of phone or email contact suggested the individuals did not remain at that location; staff also noted some of the registrants had not voted recently. The board asked that a member sign the original paperwork for the removal and that staff retain copies in the file. The county said it will update registrations if new addresses are created when development proceeds.
