UN warns funding cuts are disrupting lifesaving programs in Yemen

A coalition of 16 aid organizations, including UN agencies and NGOs, called on Friday for urgent action as sharp funding cuts are disrupting lifesaving assistance across Yemen, the United Nations said.
UN briefers said the signatories — which include resident humanitarian coordinators and humanitarian partners on the ground — warned that more than 2,200 therapeutic feeding programmes have stopped in recent months and that roughly 400 health facilities have either closed, been forced to scale back or face imminent closure.
The briefing said almost 1 million women and girls have lost access to safe spaces and that the consolidated humanitarian appeal for Yemen was only about 10% funded, leaving large gaps in assistance to people affected by decade‑long conflict and displacement.
The aid coalition urged donors to scale up flexible funding for the humanitarian appeal, to step up development assistance and to press for respect for international humanitarian law and unimpeded access to people in need. The statement was issued ahead of a senior humanitarian officials’ meeting in Brussels, the UN said.
